Happy birthday to the best friend I had before I even knew what friends were. ❤️ Felicidades and here's to many more years of wreaking Gemini havoc on the lives of those around us. 😂 I mean we've been doing it since 1992! #WayBackWednesday
This is how we spent most of our #first#year. Her #sleeping peacefully, me trying to figure out how to nap & feeling #guilty that I just wanted to hold her all day. The truth is, my girl needed touch, she craved it. She slept for 1 cycle, 2 if I was lucky (45-90mins) by herself, then screamed until she was held again. So why, when she wanted to be close, & I did too, was I so wracked with #guilt and #confusion? .
Partly #PPD got me, I was never entirely sure of myself & it left me nervous. But more often than not, it was the voices around me that stuck.
My pediatrician telling me by 8 weeks she should sleep 8 hrs in her own room, my obigyn telling me if I don't stop night feeds at 4 mths she'll never sleep & I'll have a 10yr old who can't have sleepovers (she literally said that!), various other people trying to "help" me by telling me I needed to put the baby down because I was going to #spoil her.
✨ Here's what I learnt ... the day I tuned all that crap out & listened to my instinct & more closely to my girl, it instantly got better. Sure there were still long nights, but I found I knew intuitively when she was fussy & when she needed me. ✨ Here's what I know ...чσu cαn't ѕpσíl α вαвч with #love & touch. Babies crave our touch to help regulate them.
#Premie babies thrive when placed with kangaroo care programs (you only have to watch their monitors level out as soon as you hold them close). Monitors in the #NICU spike to 'Tachy' when a baby cries - it is stressful on them when all they need is a hand to hold them or a chest to rest on.
If you want to hold your baby - ħσℓđ тħєм!
✨ Here's what every #parent knows ... it goes too fast. Before you know it your needy infant will want their independence, they will cuddle up with stuffed animals & blankets. So indulge, enjoy & #relax when you get to hold them close. .
The key is - you know yourself & you know your baby. Your doctor is there to tell you if your infant is healthy physically, they are not there to tell you how to #sleep, how often your #baby should feed (unless they are malnourished), or how & when your baby should transition to a crib. #trust#TheOnlyBabyExpert is YOᑌ
